CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

 

Once again the USFA is seeking representatives to serve on a variety of standing committees. If you are interested or would like additional information on any of the committees listed below, please contact the USFA office. In addition, we would appreciate receiving suggestions of names of individuals you feel would be suitable for any of the following positions.  Although it is not always possible to honour members' preferences concerning the committees of their choice, every effort will be made to accommodate your wishes.

 

I. Standing committees and Joint Committees:

Complete terms of reference for the various committees are set forth on the USFA web site at www.usask.ca/usfa/about.

Academic Long Term Disability Trust Fund Board - manages the LTD Fund (2 - 3 meetings/year)

Committee on the Status of Visible Minorities - acts as an initial contact and support group for visible minority members and promotes non-discrimination on campus (3 - 4 meetings/year)

Committee on Charitable Donations  - facilitates donations by payroll deductions from USFA members (2 -3 meetings usually in the fall)

Committee on Women's Issues - acts as an initial contact and support group for female USFA members; identifies women's issues which might become the subject of collective bargaining (5 - 6 meetings/year)

Constitution Committee - reviews and recommends changes to the USFA constitution (occasional meetings)

Executive Committee - currently two vacancies for a one-year term in Category A (Instructor, Lecturer, Special Lecturer, Extension Specialist I, II, or III, Librarian I, II, or III, Assistant Professor)

Joint Committee on Benefits - monitors and recommends changes to benefit plans (monthly meetings)

Managed Rehabilitation Program Advisory Board - assists employees with health or safety issues affecting their work activities, especially returning to work after being on LTD (3 - 4 meetings/year)

Occupational Health and Safety Committee - a single committee including representatives of each trade union (4 or more meetings/year)

Pay Equity Committee - determines if pay inequities exist among employees and, if so, considers procedures, criteria and mechanisms to correct the inequities (approximately 4 meetings/year)

Traffic and Parking Committee - review parking regulations and considers requirements for changes in facilities, policies and regulations (meetings as necessary)

 

II. Observers

A special training session will be conducted to familiarize observers with their duties on September 24th.  The number of meetings for most of these committees will be determined by the number of cases coming forward.

President's Review Committee (meetings in February and March)

Promotions Appeal Committee (meetings in March-April)

Sabbatical Leave Committee (meetings in October)

Sabbatical Leave Appeals Committee (meetings in November)

Tenure Appeals Committee (meetings in March)

University Review Committee (meetings throughout the academic year)
