HSAS On Strike

HEALTH SCIENCES ASSOCIATION OF SASKATCHEWAN ON STRIKE

As you know, the Health Sciences Association of Saskatchewan (HSAS) is now on strike in its efforts to obtain a new collective bargaining agreement. It is traditional for labour unions to support one another in these situations. This is no exception. We encourage all members of the Faculty Association to respect the picket lines established by HSAS and, in particular, not to perform work normally done by members of HSAS. Our Collective Agreement specifically provides protection for our members who choose not to cross another union's picket line. See Article 9.3 which reads as follows:

An employee who refuses to cross a picket line established by another certified bargaining agent in consequence of a strike shall not be in breach of this Agreement, and shall not be subject to any disciplinary action other than loss of pay.

We also encourage members to join with our brothers and sisters in HSAS on their picket line in order to show our support.

The Executive Committee of the Association will consider other forms of support at its next meeting.
