USFA e-letter: New Table Officers
New table officers were selected at a recent meeting of the new Executive of the Faculty Association.Doug Chivers (Biology) was reelected as Chair. Professor Chivers is an accomplished scholar who has recently published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and the Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. During the two previous years of his chairship, he has worked hard to build a strong working relationship with the Employer, and he believes this has resulted in successful outcomes as regards terms and conditions of employment.
Jim Cheesman (Psychology) was elected as Vice-Chair. Some of Professor Cheesman's scholarly articles have been cited hundreds of times. During his quarter century at the university, he has contributed to many aspects of governance, and has made many contributions to the Association. The latter have led to his recognition as the most recent recipient of the CAUT Dedicated Service Award.
Donald Hamilton (Veterinary Biomedical Services) was reelected as Senior Grievance Officer. Professor Hamilton has served the Association in many capacities, and his work for us has had a positive effect on every member of this bargaining unit. Citing his "unselfish service and respectful leadership", the U of S Alumni Association awarded him the 2008 Alumni Service Award.
Other officers elected included Eric Neufeld (Computer Science) as Treasurer, Pat Blakley (Pediatrics) as Secretary, and Jay Kalra (Pathology) as Personnel Officer and Chair of Planning & Assessment.
