The merit pool for this and next year is quite large – 785 CDIs for each year. After that, it will likely go back to 600 CDIs per annum, subject to the outcome of collective bargaining.
At the last round of bargaining, the parties agreed that the merit system at the U of S was broken, although they disagreed as to exactly why it was broken. In particular, the USFA believed that many excellent scholars who did not publish a great deal had been marginalized, as well as many excellent teachers, and those who served their units in administrative capacities, such as undergraduate chairs.
This year and next there is an average of 0.71 CDI per member available for merit- based pay. Use the new merit pool to reward all kinds of meritorious contributions!
